A gentle, low-pressure approach to rebuilding your core, breath and confidence.
“Low pressure. Deep strength. Quiet transformation.”
Many people come to me feeling disconnected from their core – often after cancer treatment, abdominal or pelvic surgery, menopause, long-term stress or simply years of putting themselves last or seeping a pelvic floor problem under the carpet. Hypopressives provide a beautifully gentle way to reconnect with breath, support pelvic floor function, and restore a sense of ease in the body.
This method is powerful and at the same time calming, sustainable and accessible for most people.
What Are Hypopressives?
Hypopressives are a series of low-pressure postures and specific breathing patterns designed to naturally activate the deep core and pelvic floor withour straining or clenching. The technique focuses on:
• Postural alignment
• Diaphragmatic breathing
• Rib cage mobility
• Apnoea (gentle breth holds)
• Reflexsive lift of pelvic floor and core
Rather than forcing a “squeeze”, the body learns to respond automatically – restoring strength from the inside out.
How Hypopressives Support the Pelvic Floor
Your pelvic floor works closely with your diaphragm, breath, posture and deep core. When these systems fall out of sync, you may notice:
• Leaking when coughing or sneezing
• Pelvic heaviness or prolapse symptoms
• Core weakness or doming
• Reduced confidence in movement
Hypopressives help by:
• Improving pelvic floor tone without strain
• Reducing pressure inside the abdomen
• Supporting prolapse and bladder control
• Improving breathing effciency
• Encouraging better posture and rib mobility
• Reconnecting you with deep core support
The method is gentle, kind to sensitive tissues, and well-suited to those recovering from major life changes or medical treatment.
Who Is This For?
Hypopressives and pelvic floor work can support you if you:
• Experience leaking, urgency of bladder changes
• Feel heaviness or pressure in the pelvis (please also get this checked by your GP or Pelvic Health Physio)
• Want core strength without crunches or high pressure exercises
• Are recovering from abdominal or pelvic surgery
• Have scar tissue affecting tension or movement
• Feel tight or notice that the rib cage is collapsed making the ability toi take a deep breath more challenging
This is a safe, adaptable approach
Who Should Avoid Hypopressives?
Hypopressives are gentle, but they are not suitable for everyone. You should avoid this technique – or seek personalised guidance first – if you:
• Have a stoma (colostomy, ileostomy or urostomy) – the breath hold and abdominal shifts are not recommended.
• Have uncontrolled high blood pressure
• Are pregnant
• Have cardiovascular conditions where breath holds are unsafe
• Experience dizziness or fainting with breathwork
• Are in active treatment where breath holds are contraindicated
If you are unsure, just ask – there is always a safe adatable way to support your core and pelvic floor without using hypopressives. I can guide you toward the most suitable options for your body and stage of recovery.
